Tips for Eliminating Your Credit Card Debt

If you think there is a secret to how to eliminate credit card debt legally, you are likely to be disappointed. You could find yourself out of money and in legal trouble, if you give your money to a company that promises they can eliminate your debt.

There is no magic fix to getting out of debt. You are going to have to look for ways to increase your income and decrease your expenses. This is not always easy, but if you can do this, you will see your debt decrease more quickly.

Some of the best books for getting out of debt are written by Larry Wingett and Dave Ramsey. These are both people that have overcome debt problems in their own lives, so their information is sound. Debt settlement and credit counseling are two additional debt relief options, if you feel you need more help than a book can offer.

With credit counseling you will be paying your balances in full, but the interest rates will be lowered and the fees will be eliminated. Your credit counselor will disburse your one monthly payment to your respective credit card companies.

A more drastic option is debt settlement. Your lenders agree to a negotiated reduction in balances. You pay into an escrow amount monthly and when there is enough money in the account to pay off the negotiated balance, the debt settlement company pays your credit card company.

Be careful when selecting debt negotiation as a debt relief alternative. Lenders do not take kindly to you stopping your payments and in the current economy some of them are taking legal action to collect their money. Deciding on a debt relief option takes careful consideration. How to eliminate credit card debt legally can only be done be repaying your debts through a debt management plan.
